Dr. Denhart has special expertise in service learning development and implementation. In 1994 she contributed to the design of Portland State University’s Service Learning program where she taught for 15 years. This program was named to the US President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction in 2010 ( one of the highest federal recognitions a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement). For eight consecutive years this program was ranked by US News and World Report as among the top five service learning programs nationally. In 2009, Dr. Denhart served as advisor for designing a service learning program at the University of New Orleans as it faced the challenge of guiding its community in recovery after the devastation of hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. Dr. Denhart also has special training and experience in distance learning and other forms of online learning. Her research expertise lies in conducting complicated phenomenological studies using voice based data to identify barriers facing marginalized populations. She has training and experience with special needs learners and is able to identify learning problems and strategize wise accommodations to overcome them. Dr. Denhart is an American citizen; a speaker of English, Russian, and Spanish; has taught in Kyrgyzstan and is now teaching humanities at Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University in Saudi Arabia.
